The Best Village Christmas Decorations in West Cornwall

There is something about Christmas that makes everything more magical. And Cornwall at Christmas time? Well, that really is special! To see the lights glowing and sparkling on the water while you walk along a harbour with your four-legged friend. Or as you drive home from a countryside exploration and are greeted by each village with their delightful festive displays. There are so many winter treats put on by local communities in the county, but here are the best in Cornwall. (And they are all close to us at the Woodland collection!)

Mousehole Harbour Lights

The picturesque harbour village of Mousehole puts on what is arguably the most famous Christmas light display in the South West. With fun and distinct lights, such as the Sea Serpent and Three Ships set in the water, this unique display is not to be missed at Christmas time. Starting in 1963, the village has now been lit up for over 60 years and is a beautiful Cornish tradition.

When: December to early January

Look out for: The Stargazy Pie and Mowzer the Cat lights, from the special Children’s story “The Mousehole Cat”.

Angarrack Christmas Lights

This is such a special display of lights spread throughout the village of Angarrack. It is put on by a community that clearly loves sharing the joy of Christmas. The lights revolve around a number of festive themes, the most famous being a light for each of the 12 days of Christmas. What better way to enjoy the season, than taking a winter walk through an idyllic Cornish village spotting the many beautiful, funny and clever themed lights.

When: December to early January

Look out for: Can you find all 9 of Santa’s Reindeer?

Relubbus Village Lights

While on a smaller scale, the light displays at Relubbus do not fall short of charm and Christmas joy. This gorgeous Cornish village with it’s strong community spirit, delights all who visit at this special time of year. Houses are elegantly lit up with classic Christmas beauty. And just down the road St Hilary Church is also gorgeously decorated and well worth stopping by!

When: December to early January

Look out for: How many Christmas stars can you spot?

If you want even more Christmas sparkle, we also recommend the National Trust’s Trengwainton Gardens who are renowned for their winter lights. But it needs booking ahead of time and is at an additional cost.
