Tehidy Woods is the largest area of woodland in West Cornwall. It stretches for around 250 acres, north of Camborne and about a 25-minute drive from the Woodland Collection.
Historically the woods formed part of the Basset estate, one of the most prominent families from Cornwall’s history, owners of large amounts of land and a significant part of the county’s mining heritage. The estate was purchased by Cornwall Council in the 80s, and while the manor and golf course is still private, there are acres of quiet woodland to explore and Tehidy is now one of the best free nature reserves in Cornwall.
There are three car parks to choose from, North, East and South. This excellent map shows the facilities along with marked routes. The South Drive car park is the main one, with toilets and café facilities nearby, but it is often the busiest. The lake area nearby is also restricted for dogs due to nesting birds and other animals, but there are over 9 miles of paths, so this won’t affect your outing.
There are also two accessibility friendly routes which can be suitable for wheelchairs and those with reduced mobility, although this can often be weather dependent.
If this isn’t a concern, we’d recommend parking in the North car park and picking one of the highlighted routes through the woods. You can stop halfway through for a coffee & rest at the dog friendly café, before continuing back to the car park.
If you still have energy to spare, the coast path and Basset’s cove is only a five-minute walk away from the north cliffs car park. From there you can head east towards Portreath or west towards Hell’s Mouth and Godrevy; or just take a moment to take in the stunning views of the vast rugged cliffs.
