A flat and easy walk along the coast with an uninterrupted, beautiful view of Mount’s bay and St. Michael’s Mount. Ideal for walking or cycling, family friendly as there are no roads to cross and suitable for wheelchairs and buggies.
A 10-15 minute drive from the woodland collection. The walk should take 2 hours or so, but can be shortened.
Start at Marazion Beach, there is a large long stay car parks (Folly Fields – which has overflow parking for the summer). There are public toilet facilities nearby and a great play area for the kids.
From there, head right along the coast, either on the footpath which starts out as shingle, or when the tide is out you can walk along Marazion beach which is sandy and perfect for the kids to play. Just out of Marazion there is a large marsh perfect for spotting a variety of rare wild birds, in the autumn, large flocks of Starlings can gather and form spectacular murmurations.
As you pass ‘Marazion car park’ the path becomes concreted and wider which continues all the way to Penzance. This might be a better place to start if you have mobility issues. There are a lovely little café and restaurant here if you’re already looking for a caffeine fix.
The beach turns into Long Rock beach after about a mile, which is fully dog friendly, all year round, so let them off the lead and they can cut loose. Keep a look-out to sea as well as dolphins, seals and basking sharks are often spotted in the bay.
As you get closer to Penzance, the beach disappears, and you have to get back onto the coast path and walk alongside the train line into Penzance. When you get to Penzance, you can stop to look around the shops or for a coffee if you haven’t already. It is a bit of a steep walk up into the town, though.
If you’re feeling brave you can keep going around past the harbour and along Penzance Promenade which stretches all the way to Newlyn (another 30 minutes to get there). There you can enjoy the art galleries and seafood restaurants of this unique fishing town.
If a one way trip is preferred, then there are frequent buses between Penzance and Marazion which leave from the bus station right next door to the train station.
